50th Anniversary of St. Michael's

In September 1964 St. Michael’s RC School opened its doors for the first time. This coming September 2013, therefore, sees the start of the 50th year of the existence of the school. That is a significant milestone and the school would like to have a series of celebratory events during the school year 2013-2014.

A group of current and former staff, parents and governors have already begun to look at the types of events and activities which could happen during the 50th year. Quite obviously as a Catholic school it is intended that Bishop Seamus Cunningham will be an important part of our celebrations as will the local community which has been an integral part of the history of our school.

The planning group are keen to have a series of events running throughout the year involving current and former students, staff and governors as well as parents, both past and present. Some events might perhaps focus on a particular group of people whilst others will hopefully be attractive to all those who either are or have been associated with St. Michael’s.

Amongst some of the early ideas suggested for events through the year are:

  • Major celebration to open the 50th year to coincide with the Feast of St. Michael on 29th September
  • An exhibition of artefacts which reflect the history of the school
  • 50th anniversary logo competition
  • A large Christmas celebration event
  • A Ceilidh held in February at a large venue within Billingham
  • A final event in July 2014
  • Events that specifically focus on the students within school

Also available early in the 50th year will be a book covering the history of the 50 years of St. Michael’s. This is currently in an advanced stage of preparedness.

The school website will become a key source of information for people about the 50th celebrations as will other social networking medium. However, we recognise that we do not have all of the ideas as to suitable events and activities that might take place during next year. If you have any suggestions you can share them with us by emailing the school via this form.

Equally, if you have any memories of St. Michael’s please click on the memories link below and we will create a memories page on our school website to host the best of these.

Memories of St. Michael's

The next meeting of the group planning events for the year is scheduled for Thursday 16th May at 6.30pm here in school. The meeting will end no later than 7.30pm. If you would like to come along and become part of the planning for the 50th celebrations you will be most welcome.

Welcome to St. Michael's R.C. School

St. Michael's RC School is a successful, popular specialist school for Science and Applied Learning.

At St. Michael's every child is important, and all are encouraged and supported as we help them to achieve their full potential. We are committed to the education of the whole person within a caring environment.

At the centre of our school are Gospel values, such as service, justice, forgiveness, hope, charity, love and a commitment to community. We provide an education which is underpinned by faith and encourages each individual to develop their own gifts and talents. Throughout our school's history we have also benefited from the loyal support of parents and a group of committed Governors.jjwhite

St. Michael's has been a specialist Science school since September 2003 and, having been recognised as a High Performing Specialist School, added a second specialism of Applied Learning in April 2008. We believe that this combination, together with our many strengths in other subjects, helps us to offer a broad and appropriate curriculum for all students. In addition, it helps us to continue to improve standards and to provide all students with a variety of learning experiences.

I am very proud to be part of what I believe to be a vibrant Catholic school. Should you wish to find out more about the school then please contact us.

86% achieving at least 5+ A*-C grades

99% achieving at least 5+ A*-G grades

21% achieving at least 5+ A*/A grades

These results deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated and the students congratulated on their achievements.
